A critical piece of any thriving industry ecosystem is the workforce. With stories of drones doing more and more every day I am happy to shift gears this week to a workforce development success story.
I had the pleasure to speak with folks at Cloud Country Community College this week about their new drone curriculum.
Cloud County Community College is the first college in Kansas to adopt the Unmanned Safety Institute's (USI) drone curriculum. USI offers the only training certifications recognized by major aviation insurance providers and the FAA

Amazon Gets Patent for Snooping Drone

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office earlier this week approved U.S. patent number 9,714,089 for Amazon.com Inc. The patent is called "Trigger agents in video streams from homes" and would allow Amazon to analyze data it collects while delivering merchandise using unmanned aerial vehicles, more commonly known as drones.

NASA Grant Funds Research Into Tracking UAVs

Researchers at North Carolina State University are launching a project aimed at researching and developing high-performance communications, networking and air traffic management systems, including navigation and surveillance for both manned aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. Drone racing lifts off, delivering ‘out of body' experiences

Last Thursday, San Francisco's Aerial Sports League — one of the first groups in the country to organize drone competitions — turned the Palace of Fine Arts Theater into a looping, quarter-mile indoor drone drag race course, filled with the loud whiney buzz of drones speeding more than 100 mph. The event drew 16 pilots from throughout California, from ages 11 to 45.
