The state is a leader in aircraft design and manufacturing of general aviation aircraft and is now at the forefront of UAS being chosen as 1 of 10 lead participants in the Federal Integration Pilot Program. KDOT Division of Aviation is working directly with the UAS Joint Task Force which includes experts on aviation, agriculture, and disaster relief to build new capabilities to serve the nation and to develop economic opportunities through safe UAS operating practices.

Salina Airport Authority

The Salina Airport Authority oversees the Salina Regional Airport and Salina Airport Industrial Center. The thriving airport industrial area was converted to civilian use in 1965 after the closing of Schilling Air Force Base. Over 100 Airport and Airport Industrial Center businesses and organizations generate over 6,450 total jobs. Salina Regional Airport offers commercial air service provided by United Airlines with jet service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and the Denver International Airport.

Vigilant Aerospace Systems

Vigilant Aerospace Systems provides software for automatic detect-and-avoid for unmanned aircraft and for airspace safety and management. Based on exclusively-licensed NASA technology, the system integrates with multiple sensors to monitor air traffic and provides airspace managers and remote pilots with alerts, warnings and avoidance maneuvers.
